Scholarships

Student members are eligible for NEA's Jack Kinnaman Scholarship or leadership training that helps members can gain skills in communication, time management, group management, organizing, and publishing.

Leadership Opportunities

As a member of the NEA and HSTA, you become eligible to take on a leadership position! As a leader, you will assist your team in planning and executing events and initiatives. In addition, a leadership position also allowed you opportunity to travel and attend conferences and receive leadership training! (Not to mention it looks great on a resume!)

Community Outreach

Student members can work alongside peers and working professionals to make positive differences in communities across the country. If you have an idea for an initiative to benefit our community, special grants are available for student chapters that want to start an outreach program.

Workshops and Conferences

We hold national leadership and professional development meetings. Topics include everything from stress management and interviewing skills, to classroom management and pedagogy.

 

Just this summer two of our officers went to Washington, D.C. to represent UHWO at the NEA Student Leadership Conference! 

Professional Networks & Support Systems

As a member of the NEA/HSTA, you have access to HSTA's newest professional support network for education students and early career educators. This organization aims to provide supports and resources to young educators in order to curb the teacher turnover in Hawai'i.

Liability Insurance

& Legal Support

NEA provides $1 million in professional liability coverage and offers other legal services such as will writing, consulting, etc. This coverage, provided by our Educators Employment Liability Program, protects you every time you step into a classroom!

Technical Supports

If you've got a great idea for a membership drive or local workshop but need some help to pull it off, NEA can help. Student Program members are part of a network that includes local association leaders, UniServ staff, state affiliate officers, and staff at NEA headquarters.

Legislation & Lobbying

NEA supports America's public schools on national and state levels. As a member, you can be a part of this process and support pro-public education legislation.

Magazine Subscriptions

NEA Today, Tomorrow's Teachers, and your state newsletter are available, in addition to discounts and gift cards to NEA's magazine database.
